Installation

To install Yenka on a Mac, follow these steps

  1. Download the Yenka installer.
  2. Save the file to a location of your choice.
  3. Safari may mount the Yenka disk image in the Finder for you. Alternatively, you can double-click on the downloaded Yenka.dmg to mount the image.
  4. Drag the Yenka icon from the disk image to your Applications folder.
  5. Once Yenka has been copied to your computer, you can eject the disk image.
  6. Double-click on the Yenka application to start up the new software.
  7. You can then either try a 15-day trial, sign up for a free home licence, or activate a purchased school product with your Activation Key.

Troubleshooting

Q. When I run Yenka, there are problems with the graphics. How can I solve this?

A. The Mac operating system uses a different set of graphics drivers than Windows. This means that you could be using the same graphics card on your Mac and Windows machines, and it might work smoothly on one and not on the other. Check what graphics card you are using and then make sure that your drivers are up to date.

Q. Yenka quits immediately when I try to run it!

A. This is often caused by an incompatibility with your graphics card. Please see the above for more information. You may also want to check our list of Known Graphics Card Issues.

Q. I've updated my graphics drivers, but Yenka still crashes. What now?

A. Yenka uses its own internal web browser to access the internet. It's possible that one of your installed browser plugins might be conflicting with this. To see whether this is the problem, try the following:

  1. Open Safari
  2. Choose "Preferences..." from the Safari menu
  3. Click on the "Security" section
  4. Uncheck the box saying "Enable plug-ins"
  5. Then try running Yenka again.

If this is fixes the crash, you can find a list of the plugins that you have installed by opening Safari and going to the "Help" menu and choosing "Installed Plug-ins". This should give you a page showing all the browser plug-ins you have installed. You can find information on the Internet about how to uninstall any plug-in that you think is causing the problem.

Note:

Unfortunately, using a Mac, you cannot route PCBs or to program real PICs using Yenka Electronics, Yenka PICs, or Yenka PCBs.
